Methylene Chloride (MCL / Dichloromethane / DCM)
Methylene Chloride (MCL / Dichloromethane / DCM)
Product Description:
Methylene Chloride, also known as Dichloromethane (DCM), is a colorless and transparent organic solvent with the chemical formula CH₂Cl₂. It has a mild ether-like odor and offers low flammability, making it a preferred alternative to highly flammable solvents such as petroleum ether. Its low boiling point and excellent solvency make it highly effective across a wide range of industrial applications.
Under high temperatures and elevated vapor concentrations, it may form weakly combustible mixtures. Due to its versatility, MCL is widely used in polyurethane foam production and various chemical processes.
Role in Polyurethane Foam Production:
Methylene Chloride acts as a physical blowing agent in the production of flexible polyurethane foams. It rapidly vaporizes when combined with polyols and isocyanates, creating gas bubbles that expand and form uniform foam structures. It is commonly used in applications such as mattresses, cushions, and padding materials.
